Since we purchased Bennett's Big Boy Bed over a month ago I've been mulling over how exactly to begin the process of evicting him from his crib. You see, Dayton is sleeping in a cradle next to our bed. The poor, deprived little girl did not have a nursery prepared just especially for her...she's the second child that gets hand-me-downs. But in order for her to get use out of that hand-me-down nursery, big brother has to move out.
I've imagined it to be an emotional, drawn out affair, moving from crib to bed. And being a procrastinator by nature "the move" has yet to happen.
Sunday was the day. Jeff and I finally got around to hanging the room-darkening shades that I purchased weeks ago. As Bennett "helped" by measuring the walls and banging the floor with a hammer we did our best sales job. We talked up that Big Boy Bed so much you'd think sleeping on it would bring health, wealth and happiness with a side of world peace.
Sunday evening after dinner, bath and tooth brushing it was time. I moved all the "night night" props from the nursery - rocking chair, books, night light, monitor, sound machine, blanket and paci. He performed his nightly routine of closing and locking the door, switching off the over head light, swithcing on the night light and turning on his "sounds" and we settled in to read a couple of books.
Then he climbed on up.
Cheesed a little for the camera.
And that was pretty much that. Much less drama than I anticipated. After a prayer (which may or may not have included thanking God for Bennett being such a Big Boy to sleep in a Big Boy Bed ALL NIGHT LONG) and a song he seemed just slightly uneasy so I promised to check on him in five minutes. When I followed through he was laying quietly, head on the pillow so we exchanged high fives for what a Big Boy he was being and I said I'd come back in ten. Upon my second return he was snoozing away.
So I guess that is that. Bennett is officially a Big Boy.
Except for the potty training and dressing himself and getting rid of the paci and all that. One step at a time.

YAY!!!! That's so great!
Congratulations! That's wonderful, Bennett!!
I love that the big boy bed brings health wealth and prosperity - hilarious - particularly because we have made the same ridiculous promises about countless big boy things. Way to go Bennett!!
Good job, Bennett! He looks so tiny in the bed!
Has Dayton upgraded to her new room? How is she (and you) handling it?
Hooray for big boy baby steps!
